Abstract
14,045. Boomer, I. N., and Linkswiler, S. P. Sept. 16, 1905, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Rails, securing to sleepers; sleepers.- A casing to form a combined sleeper and coupler, for sleepers of any suitable material but particularly for those of concrete, stone, or composition, is adapted for securing the rails to the sleepers without the use of spikes or bolts. The sleeper B, which does not extend across the track, has a casing C of iron, steel, or other suitable metal, which is divided into two irregular parts. The casing C is open at the ends, and laps under the bottom edges of the sleeper, as shown in the inverted plan, Fig. 3 ; it is further provided with jogs or shoulders c making the outer ends smaller, the better to receive the correspondingly wedge - shaped sleeper B, which is inserted through the inner larger ends while the two parts of the casing are separated. The parts are secured by keys F which engage with divergent grooves G formed by turning out the edges of the side parts, and at the same time the rail A is gripped by clamps or brackets H, formed by bending up the upper surfaces of the two parts to conform to the shape of the rail. Tie-bars.-The casing C has a projecting tongue D, with a slot d, Fig. 1, for the attachment of the tie-bar E.
