Abstract
15,794. Abeles, D. July 15. Lathes.-A Jacot tool or lathe is driven by cord or friction gearing from an intermediate shaft driven by gearing from a shaft rotated by hand. Figs. 1 and 3 show the invention applied to existing tools. The runner pulley a is driven by a cord e and pulley d from a shaft i mounted in a tdbular bearing m. Both pulleys have an additional groove engaged by the bent end of a rod. f, held in a disc k with a split spring hub n, by which it may be adjustably held on the bearing m to keep the pulleys in line. The shaft i is driven by gearing o, p from a shaft r rotated by thumb and finger. The shafts i, r are supported in a plate q, pivoted at t to a block s clamped on the foot v of the tool. The tension of the cord is adjusted by rocking the plate q by a set-screw u. The plate is clamped by a set-screw t, and its movement limited by a pin y. When the invention is embodied in new lathes, the bearing of the shaft r is formed integral with the lathe, the shaft i being carried by an arm pivoted on the shaft r. When friction gearing is used, the cord grooves in the pulleys are fitted with rubber rings, and the pulley d adjusted to run in contact with the pulley a.
