Abstract

9236. Carey, R. F., and Waygood & Co., R. April 19. Friction gearing.-Relates to epicyclic friction gearing, particularly applicable for lifts, hoists, &c., of the type in which the driving-shaft is provided with an eccentric or crank c upon which is freely mounted a wheel d engaging the inner surface of a driven member in axial alinement with the driving-shaft, the wheel d being prevented from rotation on its own axis. In this case, the eccentric c is adjustable so as to maintain sufficient working pressure. It may be carried on an arm or slide adapted to be moved across a driving-plate j and adjustable by means of a screw k or the like, preferably with an intermediate spring device or elastic washer l. The driving-plate j may be provided with balance weights. The ring d may be held against rotation either by a ring g anchored to the frame by a link h, or by an intermediate plate t, which is provided with two pairs of slots t<1>, t<2>, one pair engaged by projections d' on the ring d and the other pair, at right-angles to the first, by projections f<1> on some fixed member. The driven member has a groove e<2> to receive the hoisting-rope &c., and also a brake shoe m for stopping the rotation when required. The brake lever n may be operated by a cam o on the motor shaft or switch spindle p. The switch may comprise spring arms r and contacts s and be arranged to provide two or more raising or lowering positions with an intermediate braking position.
