Abstract
5504. Bauduin, F. March 5. Explosive mines.-To maintain a submarine mine at a constant depth in a tide-way, the mooring- chain c is connected to a drum C, which is geared to a shaft K, having a propeller A, which is rotated by the tide and winds up the drum, so as to immerse the mine. When the immersion becomes too great, the flexible disc E is pressed inwards by the water and the drum C is thrown out of gear, whereupon the mine rises until the reduction in the pressure of the water allows the drum to gear again with the propeller. Specification No. 18,986, A.D. 1899, is referred to.
