Sulphur is recovered from precipitated arsenic sulphide, by heating the latter in the presence of sulphuric acid to about 160‹ C., whereby the sulphide is decomposed. On cooling, sulphur rises to the surface, and is separated by decantation. The arsenic is subsequently recovered as arsenious acid.
