Abstract

24,992. Tully, A. P. T. Dec. 7. Primary batteries. -The battery consists of a cell B, which may itself constitute one of the electrodes or contains an electrode D of iron, a solution C of salammoniac or other exciting - agent, a porous pot A, an electrode F of carbon or platinum, and a depolarizer E of nitric acid or a mixture of bromine with water, or of other liquid. The pot A may be sealed, and provided with filling-tubes H covered with caps J. The Provisional Specification states that the depolarizer may consist of chromic acid, alone or mixed with nitric acid, that the battery may be arranged as a dry battery, that sodium silicate may be added to the exciting liquid to retard its diffusion through the porous pot, and that caustic potash may be added to the exciting liquid to prevent corrosion of the iron.
