The core is constructed in sections, and each section is enclosed first in a layer of braid b and then in strips c, d, e of rubber, fabric, and rubber respectively. The sections thus covered are placed in a mould, and their abutting ends are joined together by vulcanization. In modifications, the braid may be either dipensed with or replaced by a helically-wound tape, and the whole core may be formed in one piece.
