A is divided by the central plane of the wheel into two halves a, b, which are formed in sections of the shape shown in Fig. 3. The sections are moulded from rubber, and are provided with transverse or other webs e, which may have ribs f, and the peripheries of the sections are joined by vulcanization, the webs b e i n g prevented from joining, preferably by their slightly - concaved faces g. The core is enclosed in a cover h, which is surrounded by a helically - w o u n d layer n of cord or rope. The outer cover o is sufficientlv thin to allow the windings tn show through so as to form a good tread,
