Clip and sleeve joints; butt joints; stopping pipe and tubes. -Relates to clamps and couplings for pipes, tubes, rods, or shafts applicable for use on the outside or inside of the bodies to cover over or close defects, apertures, and the like, or for strengthening or other purposes. Figs. 1 and 2 show a clamp for stopping or strengthening a pipe or tube, or for forming a coupling. Two or more parts a, b are provided with flanges a<1>, b<1>, which interlock and permit of longitudinal movement only. Thickened parts c and blocks d for striking on are provided. When the parts are suitably curved, they may be applied to curved pipes. Instead of the longitudinally-interlocking parts being external, they may be internal, and the flange a<1> may be straight instead of curved, as shown in Fig. 2. This form of appliance is applicable to the stopping of leaks or defects in water and smoke tubes of steam generators, as well as for coupling pipes or tubes together. A groove or recess may be provided in the ends of the parts a, b, to receive cement, lead, or other material. In a clamp or coupling for drain pipes, electric wire pipes, or conduits, each part a, b has a semicircular ledge or rim about the centre for the pipe ends to rest on. The coupling, shown in Fig. 9, has a socket made with mouths, internally threaded and conical, to receive lead or other filling, which is provided with projections i<1> to aid in unscrewing when breaking the joint. One or more of the parts of the clamping or coupling devices may be provided with branches, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1.
