Abstract
3522. Sudre, C. G., and Thierry, C. V. Feb. 22. Ammonia.-Relates to the treatment of distillers' spent residues or wash for the extraction of glycerine, ammonia, tars, and mineral salts. The concentrated and neutralized residues are discharged on the endless band D in the form of a thin sheet, and heated by pipes ; steam may be admitted through the pipe G. The vapours evolved are drawn off through the pipe H. The dried mass is removed by the scraper I and brush J, and falls on to the endless band K placed in a chamber where a calcining-temperature is maintained. The endless band D may be replaced by a series of endless bands, a cylinder of large radius, or a series of horizontal rotating plates.
