Abstract
21,816. Zohrab, E., and Massey, J. Dunham-. Aug. 23, 1909. Rotary - chamber apparatus for peat blocks. A polygonal rotary drum c<4> has longitudinal passages against each face for receiving blocks of peat, and is revolved intermittently by a hand-wheel, the passages at the bottom being emptied and refilled with blocks between each movement by endless iron or other bands c<1> driven through a clutch when in this position. The passages are heated by a jacket c<6> supplied with steam, water, or hot air by an end pipe c, and a current of hot air dried by charcoal &c. is passed over the blocks from end pipes c'. During a revolution of the drum, the blocks are turned, bringing their different sides in succession against hot surfaces. The dried blocks are subsequently carbonized.
