APPARATUS FOR THE CLEANING OF THE FLUES OF STEAM-IBOILERS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 4, 1916.
Application filed December 22, 1914. Serial No. 878,612.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, TnoDoRo GRUENWALD, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, residing at Genoa, Italy, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Apparatus for the Cleaning of the Flues of Steam-Boilers, of whichthe following is a specification.
This invention relates to apparatus for cleaning fiues of steam boilers and particularly to a modification of the apparatus described in my application Serial No. 868312 filed October 23rd, 1914. The present apparatus is more particularly useful in connection with boilers of the locomotive or like t e.
lhe invention is illustrated in the drawlngs.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal section through a locomotive boiler supplied with the apparatus according to the present invention. Figs. 2 and 3 are details of the apparatus.
In these figures 6 is a rigid steam pipe which connects at one end by means of a flexible tube 7 with a steam cock upon the boiler or with the boiler dome and at the other end with the aspiration heads 4 (Fig. 2) situated in the fire box 11. Tube 6 is provided on one end with a handle 10 which serves to turn said tube around its axis and on its other end with a guide-shaft 15, the latter serving to support the apparatus by its penetration inside one of the fiues during its turning movement or when being moved forward or backward. According to this form one, two or more aspiration heads 4 (Fig. 2) may be provided. In these heads the apertures 2 for the cleaning mixture may be arranged so that the cleaning mixture leaves the heads in the same or in different directions. Each aspiration head has an inlet 3 for the hot gases and its external tube is provided with a connection for connecting the head with the tube 6'.
In order to apply the device to locomotive boilers, the fire door will be opened and the apparatus introduced into the fire box in such manner that the guide-shaft 15 will be supported inside one of the fiues.
I claim:
1. Apparatus for cleaning the flues of steam boilers comprising a rigid pipe adapted to be introduced into the fire box of the boiler through the fire box door, a guide shaft arranged at the end of said pipe and adapted to rotatably engage within one of the boiler fiues, means for supplying steam to said pipe, an aspiration head laterally spaced from and mounted on said pipe and having an opening todraw in hot gases from the fire box by the action of the steam, an outlet from said aspiration head directed toward the ends of the fines, and means for rotating said pipe whereby the said outlet is directed successively toward a series of the fiues.
2. Apparatus for cleaning the flues of steam boilers comprising a rigid pipe adapted to be introduced into the fire box of the boiler through the fire box door, a guide shaft arranged at the end of said pipe and adapted to rotatably engage within one of the boiler fiues, means for supplying steam to said pipe, a plurality of laterally spaced aspiration heads mounted 011 said pipe and having an opening to draw in hot gases from the fire box by the action of the steam,
an outlet from each of said aspiration heads I directed toward the ends of the fines, and
means for rotating said pipe whereby the said outlets are directed successively toward a series of the fiues.
3. Apparatus for cleaning the flues of steam boilers comprising a rigid pipe adapted to be introduced into the fire box of the boiler through the fire box door, a guide shaft arranged at the end of said pipe and adapted to rotatably engage within one of the boiler flues, means for supplying steam to said pipe, an aspiration head laterally spaced from and mounted on said pipe and having an opening to draw in hot gases from the fire box by the action of the steam, an outlet from said aspiration head directed toward the ends of the fiues, and a handle on said pipe external to the nre box for rotating said pipe whereby the said outlet is directed successively toward a series of the flues.
4. Apparatus for cleaning the flues of steam boilers comprising a rigid pipe adapted to be introducedinto the fire bgxof the boiler through the fire box door, a guide shaft at the inner end of said pipe in alinement with the same and adapted to engage within one of the boiler fiues, a flexible pipe external to the fire box for leading steam to the outer end of the rigid pipe, a plurality of aspiration heads arranged on, but laterally spaced from, said rigid pipe at the inner end thereof and having openings to draw in hot gases from the fire box by the action of the steam, an inclined outlet from In testimony whereof I have aflixed my eachd oi said1 as iiaaticfiln heads;it digectecg tosignature in presence of tWo Witnesses. ar t een so' e ues, an a an eon said pipe external to the fire box for rotat- TEODORO U N 5 ing said pipe whereby the said outlets are Witnesses:
directed successively toward a series of the NICOLA FISOHETTI, fiues. H. BORAGINA.
