PATENT FFICE.
OF PRINCETON, INDIANA.
BOILER-TUBE CLEANER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 734,613, dated u1y 28, 1963.
Application filed March 18, 1903- T0 at whom it may concern:
Be it known that I. CHARLES BURTON RIS- Princeton, in the eountyof Gibson and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and ers; and I do hereby declare the following to invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and This invention relates to cleaners for boiler construction and combination of the parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a section Fig. 2 is an end view ,of the boiler-tube cleaner.
A is a bend-pipe, having two branches (1 and b.
i B is a steam-jet pipe screwed or otherwise securely fastened to the pipe A and prefer- C is a steam-pipe connected to the jet-pipe B in any approved manner. The pipe 0 is connected with the boiler in any convenient way, such as by a flexible pipe, and it is provided with a regulating-valve of approved construction.
The branch at is provided with an enlargement or mixing-chamber D, arranged around the jet-pipe B and extending fora short distance in advance of its orifice. The two branches (1 and b are provided with similar heads or nozzles E and F for engaging with the fire-tubes of the boiler. These heads are removable and aresecured in position by setscrews e. Each head has a flange h for bear- Serial No. 148.349. (NomodeL) ing against the end of the boiler-tube, and its end portion is tapered, so that it may enter the boilertube freely. The branch b is provided with a socket g, which slips over a part h on the branch a, so that the two parallel branches may be slid closer together or farther apart to suit the tubes of the boiler to which the device is to be applied. G is a screw for securing the two branches together after their position has been adjusted. The device is used by applying it to two adjacent boiler-tubes and admitting steam through the jet-pipe. The steam-jet draws the hot gases of the furnace through the tube 1) and forces them through the tube at. The hot gases and steam become intimately mixed in the mixing-chamber D before being forced into the boiler-tube to be cleaned, and the steam is thereby dried and superheated, so that it does not deposit moisture upon the sides of the said boiler-tube.
What I claim is f In a boiler-tube cleaner, the combination, with a bend-pipe provided with nozzles at its ends fol-engaging with two fire-tubes, the outletbranch of the said bend-pipe having also a spheroidal mixing-chamber of larger diameter. than the outlet-nozzle of a straight steam-' jet pipe secured to the rear end of the said outlet branch and projecting axially of the same part way through the said mixing-chamher.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES BURTON RISLEY. Witnesses:
