Abstract

3311. Pringle, J. Feb. 20. Tramcars; wheels.-Relates to wheels of the type described in Specification No. 21,615, A.D. 1897, [Abridgment Class Wheels for vehicles], in which hollow rubber balls or their equivalents are held between cups or cavities formed on inner and outer metal rings. To prevent lateral displacement the rings B, E, Fig. 2, are now formed with overlapping side flanges B<1>, E'. The inner ring B may be either shrunk on to the felloe A or provided with additional flanges B' and sprung into position, the abutting ends being then secured together by fishplates D fixed by transverse bolts D<1> to the felloe and flanges. The outer ring E is preferably sprung into position, the abutting ends being secured by fishplates and bolts, and each ring may have one flange replaced by an annular plate. The tread G is preferably shrunk on to the ring E, but it may be sprung into position, and the abutting-ends G', G', Fig. 6, are then connected together by a bolt K which is passed through projections J<1>, J' formed on plates J fastened to the two ends. In a modification, the ring E lies within the tread G which is flanged to overlap the ring B, and there are two or more rows of balls. The tread G may have an external flange, for tramcar wheels.
