Abstract

189,930. Feaster, E. B. Oct. 11, 1921. Spindle apparatus. - Flyers for roving and twisting machines are formed with a solid leg a and a hollow slotted leg b of sheet metal, secured together, the socket c, made from solid stock, being secured in a portion 13 of the solid leg. The leg a is provided with an extension 14 in which the leg b is bedded, a projection 27 on the latter butting against a shoulder 28. A bearing for the presser leg is formed by a lug 21 on the extension 14 and a lug 20 welded on the leg b. The solid leg may be formed in sections butt-welded together. A filling of hard solder or like material is inserted between the edges of the parts 13, 14 to form a smooth external surface and metal is run in depressions 50 on opposite sides of the opening in which the socket is secured. The finished flyer is nickel-plated or otherwise treated to prevent rusting.
