Abstract

4666. Lees & Co., A., and Bardsley, C. E. March 3. Carding-engines.-Relates to means for driving the doffer at two different speeds. The gearing is carried by the pivoted lever 6, the wheel 5 on the doffer shaft being driven by a pinion 16 on the boss of a spur-wheel 15, which may be driven at two different speeds from two adjacent pulleys driven by the belt 11. One of the pulleys is connected with the wheel 15 by a pinion 17, and the other one is connected with it through the pinions 12, 13, 14, of which 14 is made wider than the others, so that it will properly engage with the wheels 13, 15. The belt 11 is normally held on the fast-driving pulley by means of a system of weighted levers provided with a treadle, and, when it is desired that the doffer shall be driven at the slow speed, the strap is transferred on to the adjacent pulley by depressing the treadle, which is retained in the depressed position by a weighted catch.
