Abstract

477. Brockelbank, H. Jan. 9. Fastenings, hook. The fastening, which is suitable for articles of dress and for other purposes, is formed in two parts, which are attached to the articles to be united by sewing s or by other suitable means. The fastening may be made of wire like an ordinary hook and eye, and this form is shown in Figs. 1 and 3. The bill a of the hook, Fig. 1, is shortened and bent downwards, and the eye part, Fig. 3, is divided so as to form a pair of spring hooks or claws c, which are passed over the hook and engage the shoulders d. For fastening belts, jewellery, &c., the parts may be given an ornamental appearance. Variations may be made in the shape of each part. The claws c, for instance, may end in knobs, or may curl round inwards. The claws may also be made to curl outwards, and the other member of the fastening modified to correspond. Fig. 13 shows a modification of the hook, in which the ends of the wire are bent to form the shoulders.
