Loom dobbies.-Open-shed dobbies of the kind described in Specification No. 8000, A.D. 1897, are converted into shut or centre shed dobbies by connecting the healds to slotted swing levers 20, which are. mounted loosely upon a verticallymovable stud 15 and are oscillated upon it by the balk levers 4, curved slots being provided for the fixed pin 12. A toothed segment 9, loose on its shaft, engages with a wheel 10 on the pin 12, which carries also an eccentric 11 connected by a rod 14 to the lever 13 for operating the stud 15 in the slots 19 by means of a link 16. For open-shed action the segment is fixed by pins 17, 18 to the dobby frame, and the stud is fixed at the top of the slots 19, while for shut or centre shed action the segment is fixed to the T-lever 8, and consequently shifts the stud so that it is at the top of the slots when the shed is required to be open and at the bottom when it is to be closed. Paper cards can be substituted for wooden lags or pegs, by causing them to act upon the ordinary needles through the medium of additional short needles instead of through the ordinary levers.
