Abstract
20,770. Reeves, E. A. Oct. 3. Mounting chain-wheels upon shafts; chain gearing. -The chain wheel c of a cycle, instead of being rigidly fixed to the crank axle a, is mounted so as to slide on a guide b fixed thereto. Springs d are fitted to the chain-wheel, so as to normally keep it in a central position. Increased pressure during hill-climbing &c. causes the chain-wheel to move so as to give increased leverage to the pedal. The chain e passes between rollers g, f mounted on a bracket h, the roller g being arranged to slide in slots against the action of a spring i.
