The crank axles A, A<1> are geared together by a chain B and equal-sized chain-wheels C, C<1>. A chain-wheel E, fixed on the opposite end of the crank axle A, is geared by a chain F with a wheel G fixed on an intermediate shaft H, which carries a second and larger wheel K geared by a chain L with a pinion M on the driving-wheel hub. The sizes of the wheels are preferably arranged to give about one rotation of the intermediate axle to one and a half rotations of the crank axle.
