Abstract

10.689. Salsbury, T. G. May 10. Motor road vehicles.-Relates to driving-mechanism for cycles, horseless carriages, and other purposes. The Figures show the application to a bicycle. The crank axle i is mounted in ball bearings h<1> in a sleeve c carried in ball bearings d in the bottom bracket b. An internal wheel m, secured to the crank j, has hypocycloidal teeth m<1> which engage rollers k, secured to a ring f, loosely mounted on an eccentric disc e, keyed on the sleeve c. A similar ring f<1> is mounted on an eccentric disc e', keyed to the other end of the sleeve c. Rods n and n' connect the rings f and f<1> to similar eccentric arrangements mounted on the rear wheel hub. By this mechanism the speed of the rotary motion conveyed from the crank axle to the driving-wheel is increased in the ratio of the radius of the wheel m to the eccentricity of the disc e.
