Relates to wheels in which the spokes are in compression, and is shown applied to the wheel of a barrow or similar vehicle in Fig. 2, and to a carriage wheel in Fig. 5. On each end of the tubular hub 10, Fig. 2, slides a sleeve 11 which is faced to receive the inner ends of half of the spokes 14. The washer 12 is held against the face of the spokes by the nut 13 screwed on to the end of the hub. The rim end of each spoke is attached to the felloe 15 by a flanged shoe 18 screwed to the felloe. The wheel can be tightened by screwing up the nuts 13, and by unscrewing the nuts any spoke may be easily replaced. In the modification shown in Fig. 5, the sleeves 11 and washer 12 are formed in one piece, which slides on the nut 13. The nut at the outer end of the axle arm forms the axle cap B.
