Abstract

395. Andrews, A. T. Jan. 6. Felloes or rims spokes; tyres, elastic other than pneumatic.-Relates to means for easily replacing any part of a rubber tyre, Figs. 3 and 10, for securing the spokes, Fig. 7, and for coupling the driving-wheel of a motor or other vehicle to the sprocketwheel, Figs. 8 and 9. On to the trough-shaped rim A, Fig. 3, is secured a segmental rim B of which the various segments are attached by bolts b<2> and nuts b<1>, and in this outer rim B corresponding segments D of a rubber tyre are held by the edges b<3>, b<4>. Creeping is prevented by pointed screw studs which project through the rim B into the tyre D, or the rim may be formed as shown in Fig. 10, so that screwing up the nut h<6> secures the tyre and prevents creeping. The hub ends of the spokes S, Fig. 7, are flattened, or flat lugs s<1> are attached thereto, and these spoke ends are secured in pairs on opposite sides of the hub flange by bolts. The rim ends of the spokes are attached to the rim A by nipples s<3> and lock nuts s<4>. The sprocket-wheel W is coupled to the driving- wheel by brackets P, each of which is secured to the sprocket-wheel by a bolt w<1> shown in plan in Fig. 9. One end p<1> of each bracket screws on to an enlarged part of a spoke, while a second spoke passes through an eye-piece p<3> which is adjustable by nuts p<4>, p<7> in a slot p<5> in the bracket.
