Abstract
7780. Place, R. H April 1. Looms, pile-forming in.-In looms for weaving terry fabrics, such as Turkey towelling, the bar D for intermittently locking the reed C is mounted upon arms E, which are formed with extensions to be operated by cams H on the shaft I. This shaft is turned intermittently by a catch-wheel J, operated by a catch lever K, and is held in position by a recessed wheel and spring lever. The lever K may be lifted out of action by hand, by a bell-crank lever and rod R, or by jacquard mechanism, and one of the teeth of the catch wheel may be made shorter than the others, so that it does not engage with the lever K when in its raised position but ensures that the cam H is stopped in its operative position for weaving plain fabric. The length of loop is regulated by limiting the play of the reed ; this may be done by providing an arm on the shaft F with an adjustable screw stop to engage with the underside of the lay A. An additional cam may be provided on the shaft I for actuating a lever for the purpose of easing the tension on the pile warp beam at the time of forming the loops.
