Steam and furnace-gas engine furnaces.-Furnace gases generated from gaseous, liquid, or dusty fuel in the chamber H mix with steam generated by their heat in the surrounding chamber A in the proper proportion to produce a mixture of the desired temperature, and pass by the pipe C to a motor. The combustion chamber is lined with fireclay blocks 0, and is surmounted by a perforated dome P. The water space is divided in two by a cylinder K, the outer part containing colder water than the inner. The equality of pressure in the furnace and steam generator enables thin metal partitions of high conductivity to be used. The proportion of steam to products in the mixture may be varied by altering the water level or the air supply to the furnace.
