Abstract

3228. Sanderson, A. W., [trading as Sanderson & Co., A. W.]. Feb. 9. Acetylene lamps.-This invention may be adapted to cycle, carriage, ship, hand, table, and other lamps. In the cycle lamp shown in Fig. 3, there is fitted within the generating-chamber a an absorbent canvas &c. bag d provided with a perforated metal lining i and containing the carbide. A rubber cap f is fitted over the end of the generating- chamber and compresses the turned-back edge d<1> of the absorbent bag. To generate the acetylene the generating-chamber is pushed down into the water chamber g until the exposed part d<1> of the absorbent bag is immersed in the water. A valve h admits water to the carbide to start the formation of the gas. The modification shown in Fig. 12 has a coned support i for the absorbent bag. Modifications of the generating-chamber are described, in one of which the mouth thereof is closed by an internal rubber plug and in the other by an absorbent cap, the latter replacing the absorbent bag. The Provisional Specification describes means for regulating the quantity of gas generated, and also a clip for attaching the lamp to a cycle or vehicle.
