Acetylene lamps.-A generator or lamp for rooms, vehicles, velocipedes, &c. consists of a tubular container d for carbide, made in sections to facilitate cleaning. It is fitted with a cap e which is perforated at f for escape of gas to the burners, and with a bottom a in which is mounted a capillary tube b. This tube is split as shown in Fig. 2, for receiving a strip c of blotting-paper or other porous substance. When the container is placed in a tube connected with a receiver charged with water, the latter gains access to the carbide by the tube b until the gas pressure drives the water back. The generation of gas is thus regulated in proportion to the consumption.
