Screw and like propellers.- In variable-pitch screw propellers the blades are carried by cylindrical arms from the boss and a ball-bearing thrust block is provided on the arms for taking up centrifugal forces. The boss a has arms b, Fig. 1, with cylindrical parts h i, j k, which act as journals for the socket c at the blade root and the extension l of the socket respectively. The socket c is secured to blade bv bolts as described in Specification 157,776. The ball races for the ball bearing m abut on a collar p on the arm b and also on the extension ring l. For altering the pitch, each ring l carries a collar r having an arm s which is coupled by a rod t to a ring u slidably mounted on the shaft a. Sliding displacement is effected by rotating the nut x on the fixed piece y' through gearing w, z.
