Shuttleless looms; forming selvages.-In looms for small-ware of the type described in Specification No. 1105, A.D. 1894, in which weft loops are inserted by a series of bent fingers B on a reciprocating bar B<1>, the loops are caught by a selvage shuttle J<3> carried by a bar J which is caused to slide in guide-brackets J' by an arm H<3> of a rocking shaft H<2>. After the shuttle has passed through it, the loop may either fall upon a spring-controlled finger K, from which it is released by the lay C at the beat-up, or directly upon the shuttle thread. The weft loop is tightened at the beat-up by passing the weft E through a sliding guide-eye F', actuated by a rod G<1> on the lay. The shaft H<2> is rocked by an arm and connecting-rod H from a cam G<2> on the crank shaft, and the bar B' is reciprocated by a cam, carried by the lay and operated by a sliding grooved shaft connected by universal joint and bevel gearing to the crank shaft.
