Gas and oil lamps, air supply to.-The globe or shade b, Figs. 1 and 2, is supported by a glass or other holder a, which fits approximately airtight upon the incandescent or other burner, so that the air supply to the burner can only pass through channels c, f, formed respectively in the globe b and in the holder a. The channels c, f are preferably incline to impart a spiral motion to the air to cool the globe and to prevent draughts from reaching the flame. The form of the air inlets may be varied, and the parts a, b may be manufactured in one piece. In Fig. 6 a chimney b<1>, supported from the upper end of the globe b, is used, the air supply being heated by descending between the globe and chimney, as indicated by the arrows. Lighting.-According to the Provisional Specification, a hole, normally closed by a slide or ball, is provided to facilitate the lighting of the burner.
