Thermometers. - In an inverted scale thermometer for low temperature measurement, the doubled capillary tube d, d<1> is mounted on the scale-plate e, and the upwardly - extending part d has an opal insertion m at the front to obliterate the mercury column n, while in the depending part d<1> the insertion m<1> is at the back. The graduations mav be marked on the part d of the tube to reduce parallax. The thermometer is contained in a metallic casing a having a threaded lower portion containing the bulb c. The casing contains a rubber &c. washer g, on which rests a protrusion formed on the stem, the part f being pressed down on to the washer by a spring k contained in the cap j of the casing.
