Abstract

188,968. Elliott, A., and Elliott & Garrood, Ltd. Nov. 29,1921. Winches.-In power-driven winches of the kind wherein the rope drum or drums are exposed ready for use, but the power unit is protected by a casing, the power unit is a two-cylinder horizontal steam engine 12, having cylinders situated close together side by side, which rests on a base 10 between standards 13, 14 forming the bearings for the rope drum spindle 11. A single fly-wheel 20 is mounted on the crank-shaft between the cranks. The space between the standards is enclosed by casing members 17 having one or more doors 18. The shaft 21 for a rope-coiling mechanism, which may be of the kind described in Specification 189,348, [Class 109, Ropes &c.], is driven from the spindle 11 bv a chain 22 which can be enclosed within a cover 23.
