Abstract
The process of the parent Specification for the production of basic calcium hypochlorites suitable for bleaching purposes by the chlorination of calcium hydrate in water is so controlled that mixtures of these in definite proportions are produced. The chlorination is terminated at predetermined points while the concentration of bleaching chlorine in the mother-liquor decreases after having attained a maximum value, and in this way mixtures of the dibasic and monobasic hypochlorites or of the monobasic compound with neutral hypochlorite may be obtained.ALSO:In the process of the parent Specification for the production of basic calcium hypochlorites by the chlorination of calcium hydrate in water, the chlorination is so controlled that definite uniform basic hypochlorites or mixtures of these in definite proportions are produced. The chlorination is allowed to proceed at a temperature of 35-45 DEG C., with precipitation of basic hypochlorite, until the concentration of bleaching chlorine in the mother-liquor has attained a minimum value and begin to increase, when it is found that the precipitate consists of the dibasic hypochlorite. On further chlorination the percentage of bleaching chlorine in the mother-liquor continues to increase, and then falls to another minimum value, at which point the solid precipitate present consists almost entirely of the monobasic compound. By terminating the chlorination at corresponding points where the concentration of bleaching chlorine in the mother-liquor decreases, mixtures of these two compounds in definite proportions or of the monobasic compound with neutral hypochlorite may be obtained.
