Abstract

188,538. Lumsden, T. Nov. 17,1921. Flat extended surfaces, surfacing.-In a vertical spindle surfacegrinding machine having the work supported by a rotary table a, the ram c carrying the grinding-wheel b is mounted in a housing e which at one end is integral with a vertical column f located at one side of the table, and at the other end is supported by a column h located centrally of the table. The table rotates about the column and is supported beneath the grinding-wheel by a segmental track k with which engage rollers or other members on the undersurface of the table. When considerable vertical adjustment of the grinding-wheel is required, the wheel may be carried by an inner ram concentric with and axially adjustable within the ram c. The grinding-wheel may be driven by an electric motor d. The housing e may be in the form of a bridge, vertically movable on the columns f, h.
