188,107. Riehl, H. E. Aug. 22,1921. Railways for recreation.-Relates to a pleasure railway of the kind described in Specification 21648/07. The car runs on wheels 71 on flat track rails 70 and is propelled up the inclines in the usual manner by endless chains, a link of which is engaged by a dog 131 on the car. The dog 131 is pivoted to a plate 120 secured to rods 121 which slide in the frame of the truck and are controlled by springs 122, so that a yielding support is provided for the dog and shocks are prevented when the car couples itself to the chain. The car body 81 is rotatable on a central pin 95, Fig. 8, which passes through a central hub 90 on the truck, and an annular tongue 103, formed in an hub secured to the body, engages an annular groove 101 on the truck, so that sta,bility is given to the body while it is free to rotate. The axles of the truck are square and are secured by angle irons to the frame members. Guard wheels 75 carried by the frame engage guard rails 72 on the sides of the track to prevent overturning. The track, which has spaced uprights 62 secured to sleepers 61 and supported by struts 64, has longitudinal top beams 68 secured to the uprights 62. The car body, which is preferably of cylindrical shape, has an annular scolloped guard 110 that projects beyond the top beams 68. In case a car body should become detached from its truck, the guard 110 drops on to the beams 68 and the body can slide along them without danger to the passengers.
