Abstract

284,113. Miller & Baker Patents, Ltd., (Strickler, W. H.). April 21, 1927. Railways for recreation. - A car for an amusement railway has a frame in two parts 3, 4, each capable of angular movement about a longitudinal axis, bearing a fixed relation to both parts. A bar 30 extends through both parts and may be fixed to one of them, while ball joints 47, 48, 50 at the ends of the bar serve to connect several cars together. A dog 38 pivoted to a collar 37 slidable on the bar 30 against the action of a spring 40 engages a driving chain 44 carried along the track, and a dog 41 runs over teeth 46 in the track to prevent backward movement of the car. These dogs may be provided on alternate cars only. Guide-wheels 22 engage rubbing plates on a central guide rail 28, lifting of the car being prevented by a projecting member 42 of the rail, or by hooks 55 passing beneath projecting members 54 on the main track supports.
