Abstract

Elevated railways.-In a switching device for overhead runways for transporting goods of the kind in which one switch in closing causes another switch to open, a rectilinearly sliding switch-section 15,, adapted to close a gap in the main-line and a pivoted branch-line switch 11 are interconnected by a toothed segment 9 integral with the switch 11 and engaging a rack-bar 14 carried by the switch 15. The pinion 9 and switch 11 are mounted on a fixed bracket 7 and carry a cranked arm 10<b> provided with a pull chain. To ensure correct alignment, the mating ends of the rails and switches are correspondingly bevelled. Accidental alteration of the line connections is prevented by the weight of the members 10<a>, 11. In the closed position of the switch 11 an abutment 18 thereon acts as a stop for a trolley on the broken main-line 1. In the open, position of the switch 11, a tumbler 19, 22 is free and its end 19 falls into position to act as a stop for a trolley on the branch-line 2. As the switch 11 swings into its closed position, it engages the end 22 of the tumbler and lifts the end 19 into an inoperative position.
