Presses.-Relates to pressure-applying devices for trouser presses, or fastenings such as for the lid of a trunk, and comprises a pair of levers 19, 20 pivoted to the lower board 10 and arranged end to end in contact with the upper board 11. These levers have projections 27, 28 bearing on the upper board, and are drawn together to apply pressure by a cam-lever 22 pivoted to the lever 19 and engaging a loop 26 adjustably carried, as by a screw, on the lever 20, the loop being received in slots 23, 21 on the levers 22, 19 respectively. In modified constructions to allow of varying thicknesses of material being pressed a plurality of the slots 21, 23 may be provided, the projections 27, 28 may be adjustable in height, and alternative positions for the pivot pins of the levers 19, 20 may be provided. Further the straps 14 of the lower board may be cranked below the projections 27, 28 to prevent buckling, and the parts of the upper board may be hinged to the lower board. In a further modification, Fig. 6, wherein the pressure from a single pair of levers 19, 20 is transmitted to two points on the length of the press, the two parts 11, 12 of the upper board are carried by bifurcated bearing- members 40, 41 which take the form of springs secured to the levers 19, 20 respectively by screws or rivets 42.
