Abstract
186,631. Smidth & Co., F. L. Oct. 3, 1921, [Convention date]. Density separators.-Centrifugal apparatus for the separation of solid particles from fluid has a rotating cylinder 2 with radial fins 3 between which flows the fluid to be treated. Between the outer edges of the fins and the casing is placed a number of bodies which offer resistance to the axial movement of the fluid and therefore screen the solid particles thrown out from the flow of the fluid. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the bodies 4 consist of thin rings alternate rings being rotated with the cvlinder 2 while the others are stationary. In a modification, all the rings are attached to the rotating body. In other modifications, the rings form conical surfaces and may be stationary or rotary. In all the forms, a narrow space is left between the outer edges of the rings 4 and the casing 1 to enable the separated particles to drop. Extensions 6, Fig. 9, may hang from the edges of the rings so that the particles drop readily between the extensions.
