Abstract
186,607. Guyonneau, A. E., and Curvat, A. A. Sept, 27, 1921, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Pocket knives.-Each blade of a pocket knife is locked in the open or closed position by a pawl 8 pivoted at 9 in the sides of the handle and acted upon by a spring 6 to force the end 10 into one of the two notches in the heel of the blade. The opposite end of the pawl normally bears against the end of a member 2 spacing the handle plates 1 and is moved to disengage the end 10 from the blade by pressing against the part exposed by notches 17 in the plates 1; when pressed to disengage the end 10 from the blade in the closed position, the end of the spring 6 forces the blade partly open so as to be easily accessible by the fingers. The spring is formed from wire wound three times upon itself, the two ends bearing against the heels of the blades and the side coils against the pawls, the centre coil being attached to the plates 1 by a rivet 7. In a modification, the pawls project from the handle plates and a pair of U-shaped springs are used, the bases thereof being seated and secured in a recess in the spacing-member 2 by a rivet. The ends ot the larger spring bear against the blades and those of the smaller one against the pawls.
