Abstract

185,997. Jones, H. Sefton-, (Soc. Anon. Forges de Bellecourt). Dec. 2, 1921. Axle structures.-Relates to rear axle casings formed of pressed steel plates and consists chiefly in using plates of varying thickness in forming end extensions for brake supports and in reinforcing the centre of the casing by means of a liner extended to form a torque tube. The half casings b, Fig. 1, may be made of plates thickened towards the ends a to facilitate machining. The tapered parts of the casing may be formed with strengthening-ribs z, Fig. 6, and brake-supporting discs secured to the ends of the casing. The central part of the casing is fitted with a liner p provided with axle openings g and with an extension o enclosing the propeller shaft and serving as a torque tube. The casings may be formed with an expanded part h, Fig. 9, to support the spring saddles, the ends of the casing being pressed outwards to form brake-supporting discs a<1>, each half-disc having a shaped rib e with recesses f to accommodate the brake spindles.
