Abstract

185,641. Berg, J. R., (trading as Harling, W. H.). Sept. 16, 1921. Ruling-pens.-The separation of the nibs is adjusted by a set-screw engaging one of the nibs and bearing at its inner end against the inner face of the other nib, means being provided for pressing the nibs together. Figs. 2 and 4 show a pen having a fixed nib a and a hinged nib b, the set-screw d engaging the nib band bearing against the inner face of the nib a. The nibs are urged together by a spring catch h passing through a hole in the nib a and having an upturned end engaging a hole j in the nib b. The screw d is frictionally held in adjusted position by a spring nut e in the form of a split plate attached to the nib b and having a threaded aperture in which the screw engages. In a modification the spring h is replaced by a semicircular spring strip embracing the nibs and carried on an arm hinged to the pen at the root of the nibs, while in a further modification it is replaced by a sliding sleeve or screw ring engaging corresponding surfaces on the roots of the nibs.
