Seats and faces; rotating to ensure even wear. -Pump and like valves of large capacity are constructed of several valve members in series, each valve member forming a seating for the next valve in the series. The main valve seating a is formed as part of a framework b, and the valve opening c is controlled by a series of valve elements such as d, e so that the total capacity of the valve is divided between the several elements. The valve elements may be provided with guide flanges f of the same or different lengths, and one or more stops may be provided to limit the movement of each element. In the form shown in Fig. 5, two series of valves d, e are used, each enclosed in a casing b. The valves are controlled by springs i, and may be provided on their inner walis with guiding-ribs l, which may be arranged helically so that the valves are rotated by the flow of fluid.
