Ink-ribbon mechanism; printing-line indicators.-To adjust the vibrator for case-shift, the vibrator mechanism is carried by a slide which is mounted on a stationary bar and is connected to the shift mechanism. The vibrator 64 is associated with a line indicator 67, and is connected to a device 92 for adjusting the throw. The line indicator is formed with legs 47 pivoted to a slide 46 mounted on a stationary bar 59, and the vibrator slides between ears 66 on the line indicator and is connected by a link 72 to an actuating-lever 73 mounted on arms 76 on the slide. The slide engages the forked end of an arm 44 on a rock-shaft 40 actuated by the shiftkey levers 48. The universal bail 78 is formed with an arm 77 having a vertical finger 90 coupled to the actuating-lever 73 by means of a plate 92 having oppositely-facing hooks 93, 94. The plate can slide horizontally on the actuating- lever, and is adjusted by means of a hand-lever to set either hook in engagement with the finger. The hand-lever actuates a link having a camslot engaging a lever which is connected by a link 95 to the plate, the hand-lever and lever being on the stationary frame. On depressing the shift-keys, the line indicator and vibrator mechanism are raised bodily, the hook 93 or 94 sliding on the finger 90. The line indicator and ribbon vibrator are urged towards the platen 18 and into contact with a stop 70 by means of a spring, preferably a spring-finger 68 abutting on the segment 12. The arrangement enables the ink ribbon to be disposed closely adjacent to the platen and to be moved into contact with the paper without impeding the type-levers 13. Platen-shift mechanism; shift-key actions.- The shift-key levers 48 have lugs 54 engaging with rolling action rounded lingers 55 on a rockshaft 40. An arm 42 on the rock-shaft actuates a link 30 carrying a roller 32 which engages a rail 29 carried by levers 22 supporting the platen frame 2.0 in the carriage 24. To permit detachment of the carriage, the roller is mounted on an arm 31 pivoted at 33 to the link, a spring 35 normally holding a stop 36 on the arm in contact with the link.
