Abstract

A process for the treatment of clay comprises deflocculation of the clay in an aqueous medium by means of a dilute solution of metaphosphoric acid, or the metaphosphate of an alkali, either alone or in conjunction with an alkali such as sodium carbonate. The clay may be subsequently recovered from its suspension in any desired manner, for example by flocculation as described in Specification 121,191, [Class 82 (ii), Washing granular &c.].
