Abstract

Transformers. - In high-tension transformers of the kind m which a high-tension winding h is mounted on an insulating-sleeve g which is separated from the lowtension winding and the core by an air-jacket f, the electrostatic field around the unwound portion of the sleeve is stabilized by surrounding this portion of the sleeve with one or more conducting rings. In the arrangement shown, a dished ring t is connected to the core b, and two stabilizing rings r, r<1> are provided between the ring t and a discharge ring i surrounding the high-tension end of the winding h, the other end of the winding being earthed. The rings r, r' are maintained at potentials corresponding to their positions in the field, either by their electrostatic capacity or by connecting them to tappings on the winding h as shown. The rings r, r' may be supported by insulators from the ring t. In cases where a single ring is sufficient, it is preferably made of roof-like or conical form. Specification 170,547 is referred to.
