Abstract

182,315. British Thomson - Houston Co., Ltd., (General Electric Co.). June 24, 1921. Electromagnetic switches; contacts; magnetic blow-outs.-A self-aligning contact 15 is provided with a U-shaped member 20 engaging the pin 19 of a hinge support 16, Fig. 3, and with a stop 17 adapted to engage a bar 35 on the support in the open position of the switch, a spring 18 being mounted between the pin 19 and the stop. The other main contact 14 of the switch is connected to the pivoted armature 12 of an electromagnet 11, which is energized to close the switch. When the switch is closed the contact 15 first tilts about the spring 18 to align itself with the contact 14, and is then moved in the line of movement of the contact 14 to place the spring under compression. Auxiliary arcing contacts 26, 31, with a blow-out coil 32 and arc shoot 34 are provided.
