Abstract

182,163. Boularan, (dit Deval), A. March 18, 1921. Ornamenting ; gilding and silvering.-A preparation used for decorating articles of paper, parchment, wood, metal, or the like consists of gelatine, water, a pigment or metallic powder, and powdered cork or other inert substance, with the addition of glycerine, sugar, and potassium bichromate. The preparation is applied by immersion or with an air-brush, forming a coating in which the pigment is irregularly distributed. The coated material may be subjected to the action of a jet of steam which increases the inegularity of the pattern, and the coating is finally fixed by exposure to the vapour of trioxyrmethylene. A suitable composition is made by mixing 18 grms. of gelatine and 1 grm. of pigment with 200 ccms. of water, adding a suspension of 20 grms. of cork or sawdust in 100 ccms. of water, and further adding 20 ccms. of glycerine, 2 grms. of sugar, and 3 grms. of potassium bichromate. Silver or gilt metallic powders may replace the pigment. The preparation is used at 40-45‹ C. and is continuously agitated during application.
