181,949. Johnstone, R. June 1, 1921. Track apparatus actuating signals on trains.- An horizontally-extending arm c pivoted at one end b to the engine frame, and connected at the other end by a rod e to a signalling device is actuated by a laterally-sliding track contact f, preferably a wheel, when this is moved into alignment with the arm c by connections g &c. from any signal-operating arrangement. Preferably two arms c are used, one at each side of the engine to act with two track contacts which give distinct " safety " and " danger " signals respectively, as by blowing a whistle or ringing a bell. The signal may be both audible and visual. For example, the rod e or an equivalent flexible cord may operate a swinging arm or pendulum arranged to strike a bell or gong.
