Folding boxes; corner joints; lids and covers; tampering with, preventing and detecting.-In a folding box in which the sides are hinged to the bottom so that one pair can fold over, and the other pair under the bottom, the sides are locked together in the erected condition by pivoted eyes c<4> which are carried by the sides C, C<1> and are turned into apertures d in the ends of the adjacent sides B, B<1>, pins d<1> being passed through holes in the tops of the corners of the sides B, B<1> and engaging the holes of the eyes c<4>. The eyes are shown pivoted to ears c<2> struck from the hinges c, c<1> and passing through slots c<3> in the sides C, 0<1>. The lid G at one end has depending metal lugs g, g<1> with inturned ends engaging apertures F in the side B', holes g<2>, g<3> at the opposite end of the lid engaging over metal eyes. E projecting from the side B. A rod H, having an enlarged head h and an eye at the other end, is passed through the eyes E above the lid to secure the latter and, to prevent or detect any tampering therewith, the roll is secured bv a sealed wire h<1>, &c., or by a padlock passed through the eye therein. To prevent the lugs g, g<1> from becoming forced out of the apertures F,. they are apertured to engage metal eyes projecting from the side B<1>, the eyes being engaged by a rod secured in a similar manner to the rod H. If the sides in the folded condition overlap, one leaf of the hinges of one of each pair of opposite sides may be in two portions hinged together so that the folded sides lie parallel to each other. In the folded condition the lid is placed over the sides folded upon the bottom so that the lugs g, g<1> pass under the other pair of folded sides, the whole, being secured by cords, &c. passed through the holes g<2>, g<3>, and holes in the bottom A.
